Video: On being asked to wear mask, Andhra govt official thrashes differently abled woman with iron rod


A differently abled woman was pulled by hair and beaten-up with what looks like an iron rod by her senior colleague after she reminded him to wear his face mask, which has been mandatory in view of the coronavirus pandemic. The accused, identified as Bhaskar, has been arrested.

The incident, which was captured on the CCTV camera, happened inside an office in the Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh. Other staff members were also present inside the office. The video of the shocking incident has since gone viral on social media.

The accused, identified as Bhaskar, is the deputy manager of a hotel under the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Department in Nellore. According to the inputs, Bhaskar got angry after the woman employee suggested him to wear his mask.

In the video, Bhaskar, not wearing a mask, is seen coming out of his cabin, pulling the woman by her hair, dragging her and repeatedly attacking her with an object while the other colleagues try to intervene.

It is worth mentioning that the Andhra Pradesh government, as part of Unlock 1.0, has allowed offices and other institutions to run. The employees have been asked to wear face masks at all times as a precautionary measure.

The victim has lodged a complaint with the police. Andhra Pradesh Tourism Minister Avanti Srinivas has taken a strong view on the incident and ordered a suspension of Bhaskar.

“The accused was absconding after the registration of FIR on Saturday. The Police had dispatched teams immediately. Today morning, after the arrest of the accused, as per protocol, a medical examination and a Covid test were conducted. There was no delay on the part of Nellore Police,” Nellore SP said.

Police were also directed to take strict Legal action in this regard. A case under Sections 354, 355, and 324 of the IPC was booked on June 27. The accused has been arrested and is sent for judicial remand.
