We condemn racial injustice, stand behind our black performers, fans: WWE on George Floyd killing


Wrestling promotion company WWE put out a statement condemning the killing of George Floyd and racial injustice in the US.

American professional wrestling promoters WWE on Wednesday broke its silence on the killing of George Floyd and the subsequent protests by coming up with a strong message on social media.

WWE offered its condolences to the family of 46-year-old African-American man, George Floyd who was killed in police custody. Footage of a Minneapolis police officer kneeling on Floyd’s neck has triggered a widespread outcry across the US. Several have taken to the streets to protest the police action and are calling for reforms.

WWE said it stands behind its ‘black wrestlers, employees and fans’ and voiced against racial injustice.

“WWE supports an inclusive society and condemns racial injustice. We stand behind our Black performers, employees and fans around the world, and encourage everyone to use their voice to speak out against racism.

“We offer our sincere condolences to the family of George Floyd and the families of countless others who have lost their lives due to senseless violence,” WWE said in a statement.

WWE also blacked out its profile photos on social media platform in support of #BlackoutTuesday movement.

The company’s statement comes after several WWE stars took to social media to voice out against racism and condemn the killing of George Floyd.

WWE superstar Roman Reigns said there is no grey area when it comes to understanding that racism is wrong.

“Racism is wrong. There is no grey area here. IT IS WRONG. Teach your kids this everyday, so we can rid ourselves and our future of this life ending disease,” Reigns said.

Kevin Owens said George Floyd’s ‘murderers’ need to be held accountable.

“If you are more upset by what’s happening in Minneapolis currently than what happened to George Floyd, there is something seriously wrong with you.

“Mr. Floyd was murdered. His murderers have to be held accountable,” Kevin Owens wrote.
